Space-A traveler guide

Space-A for 100% Disabled Veterans: Category VI and Geographic Limits

AMC lists qualifying veterans with a permanent service-connected disability rated as total in Category VI. The important difference is that qualifying disabled-veteran travel has geographic limits that do not automatically match military-retiree travel authority.

Know the geographic boundary before choosing a route

Current AMC terminal guidance states that qualifying disabled veterans who are not otherwise traveling as retirees may travel within CONUS; directly between CONUS and Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa; and within Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Guam and American Samoa travelers may transit Hawaii or Alaska.

That is why a route to Japan, Korea or Europe should not be treated as eligible merely because the traveler can see it on an AMC schedule.

Dependents have their own conditions

AMC terminal guidance describes dependents of qualifying disabled veterans as eligible when accompanied by the sponsor under the applicable authority. Verify the current identity and documentation requirements before travel.

Use the Planner as a screen, not the final authority

MilVoyage can flag a route that appears outside the known geographic authority, but DoDI 4515.13 and the operating passenger terminal remain controlling. Recheck before repositioning.
