Lajes official travel page appears to carry outdated U.S. COVID entry guidance
MilVoyage found a current official Lajes passenger-terminal page displaying U.S. predeparture COVID testing language that conflicts with CDC's rescission of the general requirement effective June 12, 2022.
What changed
MilVoyage's source-quality review identified a conflict between current text on the Lajes terminal page and the controlling CDC policy history for general U.S. air-entry testing.
Why it matters
Travelers can be misled when an official local page contains stale or context-mismatched requirements. Official status alone does not guarantee every paragraph on a page is current.
What to do
Verify the terminal's current instructions, Foreign Clearance Guide, host-nation rules and any mission-specific health requirements; do not rely on the older U.S. testing language by itself.
MilVoyage's source-conflict monitor identified an unusual problem on the official Lajes Field passenger-terminal page: the page currently displays language saying travelers entering the United States need a negative COVID-19 viral test or recovery documentation, even though CDC rescinded the general U.S. air-travel predeparture testing requirement effective June 12, 2022.
This does not mean every health-related requirement that can affect military travel has disappeared. DoD, mission-specific, medical, host-nation or Foreign Clearance Guide requirements can be separate from the former general CDC entry-testing rule. The conflict is narrower: one current official terminal page appears to contain older U.S. entry language that does not match the controlling CDC policy history.
MilVoyage will not silently replace the terminal page or tell travelers to ignore it. Instead, source conflicts are surfaced as their own evidence class so a traveler can see the discrepancy, identify the higher-level controlling source for the disputed claim and verify any local or mission-specific requirement before travel.
This is also why MilVoyage is adding automated stale-guidance checks across passport, health, baggage, access, payment and eligibility content. The goal is not to declare official sources unreliable; it is to detect when two official sources cannot both be describing the same current rule.
Controlling sources
MilVoyage preserves the distinction between an official observation and a guarantee. Recheck controlling sources close to travel because terminal procedures and operational conditions can change.
